It's been a while since I did this kind of thing, and I don't have any DS90-specific stuff handy but in the days of *real* DECservers you had to look at DECserver port/session characteristics such as passall and pasthru if you wanted to pass control characters as well as the usual stuff. Also, there were sufficient variations between DS90 family members that you may wish to specify exactly which DS90 you are using, in order to get definitive help from real DS90 experts (I'm not one). Given that there is presumably at least one other box in this picture (the one you are using to connect to the DS90) you might want to say something about that box (and its software, eg what application and what protocol you are using) as well, because it will likely also need persuading that (some or all) control characters need to be passed transparently. Note that Bad Things may happen here with respect to things like flow control (xon/xoff) if you don't get this setup *exactly* right, and the consequences may be more dramatic than you might expect. If this is a production system, obviously particular care is needed. That's not to say it can't be made to work (it's how the systems I managed used to work), just tread carefully. I used to be one of the main tech support and developer guys for DiskMizer when I worked for Symark. Symark doesn't support VMS any longer, at least from what I can gather from their website. You might want to contact them and see what they say. I wonder why Digital/Compaq/HP weren't able to move it to Alpha. What was it about this code that made them stay on VAX? For development systems you typical copy them from another system. The only one with the problem is those companies setting up a development environment without previous VMS experience. Not a particular big group. Unfortunately. Google Groups Search comes up with: http://groups.google.com/group/comp.os.vms/msg/a3fd4bd1bd687eb1?hl=en& posted by Tom Linden of Kednos (the company that provides PL/I on VAX and Alpha). That post ends with: ================================ > p.s. Any word on PL/I for Itanium VMS? No. Do you need it? If so have you told HP? ================================ From my most recent discussion with Tom Linden, I believe that status is the same now as it was back then (February 8, 2006). As with all other topics, posting in comp.os.vms might be interesting for the rest of us, but it does not constitute having "told HP". In a business sense only Itaniums not sold (perhaps to the benefit of IslandCo) will do that. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Jan 2007 14:37:57 -0500 From: JF Mezei Subject: Re: PPPD, TCPIP Services and incomplete negotiations Message-ID: <45b6644e$0$25500$c3e8da3@news.astraweb.com> etmsreec@yahoo.co.uk wrote: > What's the client running JF? On the PSION, it doesn't and the line remains as a PPP (ASNxx) device and I must SET NOINTERFACE PP0 to return it. (and then redefine it). I will try to better document exactly what happens. I spent so much time testing it with many variations, that I must now return everything to a "blank" state and document exactly what is being done.
