Mine occurred when there was a power outage and it turned out that network support had not put the POP rooms supporting the data centers on UPS. To be fair, we have had at least one full application downtime since - I suppose about five years ago. It was to change the disk configuration and may have been related to fibrechannel migration. We managed to arrange it so that one node was given some extra votes and could maintain quorum while the others rebooted. -- George Cornelius cornelius A T eisner D O T decus D O T org cornelius A T mayo D O T edu ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Jun 2008 16:55:47 -0700 (PDT) From: AEF Subject: Re: Chuck Norris says "Drill now in America for oil" Message-ID: <888c03c1-4458-4507-82a0-20176553dcf1@k37g2000hsf.googlegroups.com> On Jun 17, 11:19 am, ultra...@gmail.com wrote: > On Jun 14, 10:39 pm, JF Mezei wrote: [...] > JF, did you ever hear of something called PRINCIPAL? It does not translate FTA895:, but it does do a SHOW DISPLAY/SYMBOLS. I think 8 years ago /SYMBOLS was undocumented, but it is documented in V8.3. I am not sure when /SYMBOLS was first documented. So when you log into a XTerm session SHOW DISPLAY/SYMBOLS will return DECW$DISPLAY_NODE, DECW$DISPLAY_SCREEN, DECW$DISPLAY_SERVER and DECW$DISPLAY_TRANSPORT. The code I wrote takes some of these values and puts them in a particular file. > > And if I SET HOST from there and run your code on that login, > I get TERM = RTA7: At least your program knows about RT > connections. But the display is set to the NODE only. This > results in > > > > > Bach_3_BN2> show disp > > > > Device: WSA933: [super] > > Node: XXXBN2 > > Transport: DECNET > > Server: 0 > > Screen: 0 >... If you do a SET HOST and do a SHOW DISPLAY you should get; %DECW-W-OPENIN, error opening DECW$DISPLAY as input -SYSTEM-W-NOSUCHDEV, no such device available If you are getting what you show then you must be doing a SET DISPLAY in SYLOGIN.COM or LOGIN.COM. In my example the SHOW DISPLAY/SYMBOLS does not define the DECW$* symbols above so then the code sets the display to the same values as you wrote to a particular file above. When I wrote the code I hardcoded the full node::directory:filename to make sure that this would work no matter which node you logged into first and no matter which node you SET HOST from or to. Here is the code again (with a slight modification to avoid typos in filename) for anyone who is interested. $! $ particular_file = "nodea::sys$login:create_display.com" $! $ show display/symbol $! $ if "''decw$display_node'" .eqs. "" then goto create_display $! $ open/write outfile 'particular_file $! $ write outfile "$ set display/create/node=''decw$display_node' -" $ write outfile " /transport=''decw$display_transport' $ close outfile $! $ goto done $! $create_display: $! $ @'particular_file $! $done: $! $ exit Peter Weaver www.weaverconsulting.ca www.openvmsvirtualization.com www.vaxvirtualization.com www.alphavirtualization.com Winner of the 2007 OpenVMS.org Readers' Choice Award for System Management/Performance ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Jun 2008 15:09:52 -0700 (PDT) From: johnwallace4@gmail.com Subject: Re: Interesting job ad from HP Message-ID: <877b75a7-b72d-4868-80a6-960cc4bd2150@27g2000hsf.googlegroups.com> On Jun 17, 8:38 pm, "Richard B. The "statistics since" date+time is the date+time of last reboot. There are ways and means of determining it remotely too, as used eg by www.netcraft.com, who report that e.g. www.microsoft.co.uk has never managed much more than 130 days uptime since 2001, and more typically manages more like 40-60 days uptime at best. http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph?mode_u=on&site=www.microsoft.co.uk ------------------------------ Date: 17 Jun 2008 19:30:24 GMT From: VAXman- @SendSpamHere.ORG Subject: Re: PerfectCache on Integrity - anyone else using it? [snip] JF, All the more reason to use a custom mail front-end. I wrote one in DCL. It's called MAIL_INDIVIDUALLY.COM . I have been using it every week or so from before 1998. The message and distribution lists are in separate files. The program takes the distribution list (which can have comments built into it) and individually calls mail for each address. Bounces from Postmaster come back to the sending account. The screen output can be grabbed (and thrown into a .log file) to show that the mail was sent to each destination. The routine also keeps some track of errors. One improvement would be to make the routine keep its *own* log file. FORMAT: MAIL_INDIVIDUALLY where is the full name of the file to be mailed is the full name of the distribution list is the SUBJECT: line, MUST BE enclosed in Quotes is the FROM: line, MUST BE enclosed in Quotes is the REPLY-TO, MUST BE enclosed in Quotes is the TAG, such as [AccOps], SHOULD BE enclosed in Quotes p1 and p2 are mandatory, p3, p4, p5 and p6 will be prompted for. . fred bach . music at triumf dot c a ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Jun 2008 20:40:50 -0500 (CDT) From: sms@antinode.info (Steven M.
