TO: DEC LA100 Users in Oregon QA 15 July 1983 FROM: Jim Moomaw, AL3-1-255 SUBJ: Configuration of DEC LA100 Printers on VAX/VMS Systems Due to the very flexible nature of the new LA100 printers (in terms of their configurability to a variety of different communi- cation situations, determining an optimum hardware setup of the printer for our VAX/VMS system was, at first, rather difficult. To simplify setting up the next LA100's, I have documented below a specific configuration that best matches them to our VMS environment. (Chapter 3 of the Letterprinter Operator's Guide contains information regarding selectable features, and gives further explanation of the options mentioned below.) Operator Control Panel All buttons should normally be in the UP position, unless manual intervention is desired. If the paper is sprocket-driven, and feeds through the bottom of the printer, the PAPER-OUT lever should be set towards the rear of the printer to enable paper-out sensing (and so set X-OFF/X-ON as appropriate). The font selector should be set so that all LED's except one are lit, to enable computer selection of the fonts. If any user should alter these settings, the printer will not operate as desired for other users. Switch Selectable Features When setting the following, always use a ball-point pen or scribe. Switch A is on left, and Switch B is on right, when facing printer. Switch settings are down-active. <*> Switch A <*> BAUD RATE : 2400, NON-SPLIT PARITY : SPACE 12345678 DATA BITS : 7 RLRLRRRR <*> Switch B <*> SPEED/REST : RESTRAINT MODEM CTRL : NO MODEM 12345678 PAPER FAULT : NO ACTION (Uses X-OFF) RRRRRLLL CODED DSCNCT: DISABLE X-ON/X-OFF : ENABLE RCVR ERROR : PRINT CHARACTER SAVE (STORE): (Move this switch from right to left to install switch settings above.)
