.TH TECO 1T "Tek Local" .SH NAME teco, mung, Make, inspect \- edit a file with the TECO editor .SH SYNOPSIS .B teco [ .B \- ] [ filename [ newfilename ] ] .br .B mung [ .B \- ] [ filename [ string ] ] .br .B inspect [ .B \- ] [ filename ] .br .B Make [ .B - ] [ filename ] .SH DESCRIPTION All four of these commands invoke the TEK UNIX TECO text editor. If the file ".teco" exists in the user's login directory and the argument .B \- is absent, then an .I ei command is performed on the file and all arguments are placed in the text buffer, one per line. If the command has any arguments and no .teco file exists or was used, additional operations are performed as follows: .TP 11 .B teco ebfilename$y$$ or erfilename$y$ewnewfilename$$ .TP 11 .B mung istring$eifilename$$ .TP 11 .B Make ewfilename$$ .TP 11 .B inspect erfilename$y$$ .PP This version is a proper subset of .I "Standard TECO" with the following exceptions (PDP-11 TECO commands listed): .TP 11 .B ^C Use the command .B EQ to abort TECO. .TP 11 .B rubout backspace is used to delete characters. Rubout may be entered into text files and echoes "^?". .TP 11 .B return identical to linefeed (LF) key. For exception see .B et command. .TP 11 .B LF echoes as CRLF to the terminal. .TP 11 .B ed .B ed\c &4=1 inhibits memory expansion in .B "Y A N" and .B P commands. .B ed\c &64=1 causes output files to be copied instead of linked (slower but saves links to original files). .B ed\c &32=1 causes a backup file to be generated (set automatically by .B eb command). Default is 5. .TP 11 .B et only 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 128, and 32768 implemented. Lowercase is always allowed. Default is 2. .B et\c &4 puts terminal in "DEC mode" so that the return key enters CRLF into text buffer. .TP 11 .B eo mode bits for .B ew and .B eb commands. Default is 644 octal. .TP 11 .B ^x Characters "{", "}", "|", and "~" are not considered lower case. .TP 11 .B ^\e toggles between exact and either case match modes within search strings .TP 11 .B ^e[...] within a search string, matches any character in the brackets .TP 11 .B ^q converts line oriented to character arguments. For example, .B n^qc is the same as .B nl\c . .TP 11 .B e! invokes the shell. If an argument is supplied, then invokes the shell to execute that command. .i0 .SH FILES /usr/bin/teco .SH SEE ALSO TECO users manual. .SH BUGS There are probably many bugs.
