FORD AEROSPACE & COMMUNICATION CORP. IN COOPERATION WITH: NASA/JSC BUILDING 37, LIFE SCIENCES MEDICAL OPERATIONS HOUSTON, TEXAS 77058. ATTENTION: WILLIAM BAKER SYSTEM MANAGER 713-483-5353 INTRODUCTION: THE SYSTEM MANAGER MAY FIND THESE PROGRAMS AND COMMAND STRUCTURES USEFUL. ALL FILES MAY NEED TO BE EDITTED TO REFLECT THE STRUCTURE OF THE SYSTEM WHICH THEY RUN ON. THE SYSTEM MANAGER MAY ALSO WANT TO CHECK THE PROGRAMS LOCATED IN [SYS0.SYSHLP.EXAMPLES] FOR OTHER FUNCTION: MAILCOMPRESS.COM MAILUAF.COM ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- COMPMAIL.COM THIS UTILITY USES THE SETUSER FUNCTION TO PROVIDE THE SYSTEM MANAGER WITH THE ABILITY TO COMPRESS USER MAIL FILES. USER MAIL.MAI FILES NEED TO BE COMPRESSED PERIODICALLY TO SAVE DISK STORAGE SPACE. IT USES AN INPUT FILE 'MANAGER.LIS'. (SEE LAST COMMENTS THIS FILE). IT IS ALSO RECOMMENDED THAT THE USERS PERFORM THE COMMAND (WHILE IN MAIL): SET MAIL_DIRECTORY [.MAIL] THIS MOVES ALL .MAI FILES TO A NEWLY CREATED MAIL SUBDIRECTORY. THE SYSTEM MANAGER MAY WANT TO PERFORM THAT FUNCTION GLOBALLY BY EDITTING THE COMPMAIL.COM FILE TO EXECUTE THE FUNCTION FOR ALL USERS. BY SETTING THE MAIL SUBDIRECTORY, THE SYSTEM IS THEN ABLE TO HIDE THE MAIL$....MAI FILES FROM USER VIEW, BUT ALSO MAY BE ABLE TO SEPERATE OUT MAIL DESTINATIONS FOR USERS WHO SHARE COMMON DEFUALT DIRECTORIES. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- DELOLDMAIL.COM DELOLDMAIL COMMAND FILE IS SUBMITTED BY THE MAIL COMPRESSION COMMAND FILE. THE MAIL COMPRESSION ACTUALLY CREATES A NEW MAIL.MAI FILE AND RENAMES THE OLD FILE TO MAIL.OLD. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THIS FILE BE SUBMITTED AS A BATCH JOB AFTER THE INCREMENTAL BACKUP'S ARE COMPLETE. IN THIS WAY BOTH THE NEW MAIL FILE AND THE OLD MAIL FILE ARE ON BACKUP MEDIA. REQUIRES BYPASS PRIVILEGE TO WORK PROPERLY. THIS FILE REQUIRES EDITTING TO REPLECT PROPER DISK USAGE. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- UAFLIS.COM UAFLIS.COM CREATES A SERIES OF MAIL DISTRIBUTION LIST FILES THAT CAN BE USED BY USERS AS BASIC DISTRIBUTION LIST. IT UTILIZES THE SYSUAF.LIS (BRIEF FORM) IN SYS$SYSTEM. THIS IS MEANT TO BE AN EXAMPLE OF HOW TO PERFORM THIS FUNCTION. FOR MY OWN PURPOSES, THIS COMMAND PROCEDURE ALSO CREATES A LIST OF ALL USERS (ON USERNAME PER LINE) CALLED MANAGER.LIS. THE MANAGER.LIS FILE IS USED BY THE ABOVE COMMAND PROCEDURES FOR MANAGING USER MAIL ON OUR SYSTEM. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- SYSMAIL.EXE & SYSMAIL.COM A PROGRAM TO SHOW IF A USER HAS ANY NEW MAIL IN HIS NEWMAIL FOLDER. THIS IS AN OLDER VERSION OF THE MAILUTIL PROGRAMS, AS SUCH ONLY THE EXECUTABLES ARE PROVIDED. MUST BE INSTALLED WITH CMKRNL PRIVILEGE AS FOLLOWS: INSTALL SYSMAIL.EXE/PRIV=CMKRNL THE SYSMAIL.COM FILE MAY BE USED TO ACTIVATE THE PROGRAM. ONE OF THE FOLLOWING SET OF COMMANDS MUST BE ISSUED: A. FOR USE WITH SYSMAIL.COM: $ NEWM*AIL :== @location:SYSMAIL.COM Then just issue: $ NEWM username B. WITHOUT USE OF SYSMAIL.COM: $ NEWM*AIL :== $location:SYSMAIL.EXE $ ASSIGN/SYSTEM SYS$SYSTEM:VMSMAIL.DAT NEWMAIL Then just issue: $ NEWM username SYSTEM REQUIRES THAT THE FILE VMSMAIL.DAT BE ASSIGNED AS A LOGICAL. (THE /SYSTEM ON THE LOGICAL ASSIGNMENT IS NOT REQUIRED) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- MAILUTIL PROGRAMS: SEE THE AAAREADME.MAILUTIL FILE, AND MAILUTIL.DOC FILE.
