THE TAPCTRL EXECUTABLE CAN BE INSTALLED ANYWHERE, BUT YOU MUST DECLARE A LOGICAL TAP_SYSTEM TO INDICATE WHERE. THE TAPCTRL.HLB & TAPCTRL.HLP MUST BE INSTALLED TO SYS$HELP. THE TAPCTRL.COM SHOULD BE DEFINED AS A SYMBOL. TO RE-COMPILE/RE-LINK TAPCTRL: PASCAL TAPCTRL LINK TAPCTRL,QIOLIB/LIBR SOME BUGS RESIDE IN THE PROGRAM, BUT I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM, BECAUSE OF A LACK OF TIME TO RETURN TO THIS PROJECT. THE PRIMARY BUG CONCERNS THE DISPLAY OF DATA ON THE SCREEN. WHEN PERFORMING A READ RECORD FUNCTION, THE PROGRAM PICKS THE FIRST PART OF THE RECORD AND TRANSLATES PARTS OF THE RECORD TO VARIOUS DISPLAYABLE VALUES. ONE TYPE OF DATA IS CHARACTER DATA. WHILE IN EBCDIC TO ASCII MODE, THE PROGRAM DOESN'T SEEM TO WANT TO TRANSLATE THE DATA SHOWN ON THE SCREEN TO ASCII, BUT THE DATA WRITTEN TO DISK OR TAPE IS TRANSLATED. BOTH USE THE SAME BUFFER, BUT GIVE DIFFERENT RESULTS. I KNOW THAT THIS PROGRAM WOULD DO BETTER IF I WERE TO USE MORE CLI INTERFACE STRUCTURES, RATHER THAN TRYING TO PARSE OUT COMMANDS. THAT WILL BE MY NEXT LEVEL OF EFFORT SHOULD I GET THE TIME. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- LOAD CAN BE INSTALLED ANYWHERE, BUT THE LOCATION MUST AGREE WITH THE LOCATION INDICATED IN THE LOAD.CLD. THE LOAD.CLD CAN BE INSTALLED IN DCLTABLES.EXE. SEE THE SYSTEM MANAGER FOR THIS INSTALLATION USING THE 'SET COMMAND' UTILITY. THE COMMAND IS: SET COMMAND/TABLE=DCLTABLES/OUTPUT=DCLTABLES LOAD.CLD THE 'TLOAD' COMMAND WILL NOT BE IN FORCE UNTIL THE DCLTABLES.EXE FILE IS RE-INSTALLED ON THE SYSTEM, AND THE USER LOGS IN AGAIN. DO NOT PURGE THE OLD DCLTABLES.EXE UNTIL AFTER THE RE-INSTALL. AN ALTERNATIVE IS TO PERFORM THE SET COMMAND LOCALLY: SET COMMAND LOAD.CLD THIS DOES NOT EFFECT THE SYSTEM OPERATION AND IS RESIDENT TO YOUR PROCESS. TO RE-COMPILE/RE=LINK LOAD: PASCAL LOAD MACRO PARSE LINK LOAD,PARSE,QIOLIB/LIBR THIS PROGRAM WAS INTENDED TO BE A QUICK ROUTINE FOR LOADING FOREIGN TAPES WHERE YOU HAD WORKED OUT A PROCEDURE FOR LOADING, OR KNOW THE THE CONTENTS OF THE TAPE AHEAD OF TIME. IT SEEMS TO WORK WELL WITH LITTLE SYSTEM IO OVERHEAD INVOLVED. IT SHOULD WORK ON ANY TAPE DRIVE ATTACHED TO A VAX SYSTEM. I HAVE NOT TRIED IT ON A TK50, BUT THAT SHOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM. I HAVE USED IT ON TU77'S AND TU78'S.
