VAX_MENU V4.2 VAX_MENU was created to serve as a user friendly menu environment for users of clinical databases. VAX_MENU uses VAX MENU definition files (VMF) that allow conditional menu options, symbol substitution, variable video attributes and procedural menu design. The menus can be popped up over each other and then removed as needed. The menu allows numeric or cursor driven option selection and supports multiple column options. Default values for all menu parameters mean that a simple menu system can be built up with a minimum of work. VAX_MENU was written under VMS 4.7 using FORTRAN 4.0. The program relies on SMG$ calls for video control and QIO$ for key control (this avoided the system hanging if the user entered an incomplete Escape sequence). Symbols and Logicals can be created and tested within a VMF file. When an option is selected DCL commands embedded within the VMF file and associated with that option are spawned. When the spawn is complete a return is made to the VAX_MENU program to either execute a further VMF file associated with the chosen option or to terminate. I would be interested to hear any comments or suggested modifications for VAX_MENU. I have provided source code with the view that those who make major enhancements to the software will share those through DECUS. Any questions or comments please contact: Mark C.
