The manuals for SMG give a number of example programs showing
 how the calls are used: but none of them are in the C programming
 language.

    This directory holds a number of sample programs (most are
 based on various examples in the manuals) showing how to use SMG
 calls in C.

    These programs are revisions of a previous SIG tape
 submission.  The earlier programs work properly, but the argument
 for character set (which is usually optional) was left as a
 default.  Some discussions on DECUServe indicate that this could
 be a problem in the future, especially with multiple character
 sets and internationalization efforts: so I changed the programs
 to use explicit character sets.
