Article 919 of gnu.announce: GNU Wget 1.4.3 is released, now as a part of the GNU project. The news in this release are mostly bugfixes since 1.4.2 (all reported bugs have been fixed), but there are new features, too. The relevant part of the NEWS file is appended below. GNU Wget is a freely available network utility to retrieve files from the World Wide Web using HTTP and FTP, the two most widely used Internet protocols. It works non-interactively, thus enabling work in the background, after having logged off. The recursive retrieval of HTML pages, as well as FTP sites is supported -- you can use Wget to make mirrors of archives and home pages, or traverse the web like a WWW robot (Wget understands /robots.txt). Wget works under almost all modern Unix variants and, unlike many other similar utilities, is written entirely in C, thus requiring no additional software (like perl). As Wget uses the GNU Autoconf, it is easily built on and ported to other Unix's. Installation procedure is described in the INSTALL file. For a comprehensive list of features, refer to the README file and Wget documentation. Like all GNU utilities, the latest version of Wget can be found at the master GNU archive site prep.ai.mit.edu, and its mirrors. Get version 1.4.3 from . The latest version is also available via FTP from the maintainer's machine, at: . Wget has its own mailing list at . To subscribe, Mail to with the word `subscribe' in the subject. NEWS in 1.4.3: 1. Is now a GNU utility --> GNU Wget! 2. Can do passive FTP. 3. Reads .netrc. 3. Info documentation expanded. 4. Compiles on pre-ANSI compilers. 5. Global wgetrc now goes to /usr/local/etc (i.e. $sysconfdir). 6. Lots of bugfixes. For a detailed log of changes, consult the ChangeLog that comes with the distribution. -- Hrvoje Niksic | Student at FER Zagreb, Croatia --------------------------------+-------------------------------- I'm a Lisp variable -- bind me!
