Article 155770 of comp.os.vms: [Justin Ryan] > 1) How can I boot a new OS on a VAXserver 3100? It's either a MicroVAX 3100 or a VAXstation 3100 -- the latter if it has a graphics console, the former if it uses a console terminal. > 2) What OS can I can I put on it? Ultrix, VMS, NetBSD, possibly others. NetBSD is a free 4.4BSD. Check out http://www.netbsd.org/ for more information -- but beware; the web pages are probably not updated with the latest information about VAX support, and the 3100 probably isn't supported in 1.2, due out any day now, but _is_ supported in "NetBSD-current" after the release. > I would like to know if MIPS linux would run on it. No. I didn't know they'd ported Linux to the MIPS, but anyway, VAXen use VAX CPUs, not MIPS. DECsystem and DECstation machines use MIPS CPUs, and run Ultrix or NetBSD -- or Linux, apparently. -tih -- Popularity is the hallmark of mediocrity. --Niles Crane, "Frasier"
