Fractal signatures!?

I've recently written an application that takes a bitmap and generates a 
surface where
 1. the pixel plane is the x-y plane
 2. the height (z value) is proportional to the intensity
the program then exports a 3D data file in one of a number file formats,
for example, Super3D, DXF, Vision-3D, RayShade, Radiance, RenderMan. One
thing this lets me do is create 3D surfaces from fractal images, but also
we can create surfaces from any image. One nice example I tried was taking
a picture of a Maori carving and creating a detailed 3D version for our
main 3D modelling package MicroSation.

Anyway, it occured to me that fractal signatures would be trivial to add
as an export format, and indeed it was, 10 minutes later I generated the
following. An idea ahead of its time eh.
